The Fort Detrick Business Development Office (FDBDO) serves you as a Business Development Broker!

Many of the activities undertaken by the FDBDO are “above and beyond” our required, contract performance. As an example, we foster networking between both private and public enterprises – not just “basic introductions.” FDBDO training options are consistently upgraded to reflect your changing business education requirements. We provide information and counsel to the private for profit and non-profit enterprise in the business acumen required to develop Federal Government business. The FDBDO also assists the market research performed at Fort Detrick by the USA and the 37 Mission Partners. Possibly the greatest improvements obtained by the FDBDO model come from concentrating on “natural brokers” in the community. Consider our experience within the technology sector of one of the largest bio-informatics communities in the United States. CIO’s in this important arena feared that their widely distributed organizations were solving the same problems repeatedly, without consistent standards, strategies, or solutions. Given the wide range of specialists in a myriad of departments — database managers, field support technicians, web site developers, power plant operating systems overseers, and more — it wasn’t surprising that the staff of highly skilled (and highly compensated) technologists often operated in isolation with limited collaboration and meager knowledge of each other – more often than not, repeated in the public sector as well!

To provide assistance, the FDBDO located a small, disadvantaged business to conduct a network analysis and identify five “brokers” within the community. These five professionals provided a connection across organizational silos. The five were instructed to get to know two specific people in parts of the network in which they had few contacts. Invariably, the “natural brokers” developed a better understanding of their “colleagues” expertise; they then drew upon that knowledge as they fulfilled their natural role of linking others to requisite expertise.

In similar fashion, the FDBDO seeks to develop and promote a common ground upon which all of our clients can find appropriate partners; information and events that are important building blocks for business development. How can we help you today?
