SBA Increases Small Business Size Standards

SBA has adjusted its monetary-based size standards (e.g., receipts, net worth, and financial assets), for the effect of inflation that has occurred since the last inflation adjustment in February 2002. This action restores small business eligibility to businesses that have lost that status due to inflation. For purposes of Federal procurements, this rule applies to solicitations, except for noncompetitive section 8(a) contracts, issued on or after January 5, 2006. For purposes of noncompetitive section 8(a) contracting actions, the new size standards are applicable to offers of requirements that are accepted by SBA on or after January 5, 2006.

Small Business Contractor Database Revamped

26 April 2005
The Central Contractor Registration database has been revamped to give the Small Business Administration oversight over the small business designation process. The revamp by the SBA, Office of Management and Budget, General Services Administration, and Department of Defense also will allow more accurate monitoring of contracts awarded to small businesses."This upgrade to the CCR database will improve upon the accuracy of the federal government's reporting of small business achievements and will allow the SBA to monitor and confirm the companies' small business status," said SBA Administrator Hector Barreto. The enhancement is the second phase in the merger of the Dynamic Small Business Search, formerly known as Pro-Net, into the CCR database. CCR is an online business portal that assists small businesses with marketing their goods and services to the federal government and prime contractors. CCR also helps federal agencies and prime contractors seek out small businesses for contracting opportunities. The overall effort falls under the auspices of the Integrated Acquisition Environment, which is one of the E-Gov initiatives managed by the GSA.
