About FDBDO

The FDBDO was established in 2005 through a government contract awarded by the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command’s U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity to support Fort Detrick. Since its inception the FDBDO has assisted over 2500 companies.  The FDBDO’s efforts helped these companies better understand and participate in the business opportunities at Fort Detrick. We provided support the companies need to have access to and to navigate through the complex government procurement process.

The FDBDO has formed close working relationships organizations such as the statewide Economic Development Offices, colleges and universities, Chambers of Commerce and other business associations, and the Fort Detrick Contracting Community (FDCC) to help create a stronger business community and a stronger Fort Detrick.

In April 2010, Beacon Associates, Inc., assumed management of the FDBDO. Beacon is a woman-owned, 8(a)-certified consulting firm that offers organizational effectiveness, technology, and operational solutions to the federal government and private industry. The FDBDO, which is located in Frederick, Maryland, close to Fort Detrick, is managed by its Director Christine Demas who was selected to lead the Fort Detrick Business Development Office in April 2010.

“I look forward to working closely with the business community to help them grow and diversify and to encourage collaboration with Fort Detrick,” Ms. Demas said at the time of her appointment. “Fort Detrick is a strong economic engine for a wide variety of companies and industries.”

Previously Ms. Demas was the Executive Director of the Fort Detrick Alliance where she worked closely with the Fort Detrick Command staff and the community at large. She previously served as the Chairman of SCORE (Counselors to America’s Small Businesses) where she was instrumental in bringing the SCORE operation of providing business counseling services to small businesses back to the Frederick area.

Ms. Demas earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. In 2006 the United States Army honored Ms. Demas with the Commander’s Medal for Public Service for her work as a Family Readiness Group Leader for the 6th Brigade, 80th Division of the US Army, a position she held from 2005 to 2006.
